Magnetic
iPod Touch/iPhone
It’s a rare treat to see a brand new game come out from Team Joypod but they have crawled from underneath the woodwork with a puzzle game which will have you scratching your bald dome until it weeps yolk. Magnetic is one of those games which will sap both your time and iPhone battery if you succumb to its deceptively cute yet evil game play but don’t let that put you off from fighting the evil Turnip from his conquest for world domination.
Matching three or more is the key with Magnetic but here we have a delightful twist on the genre. During your time with Magnetic, the 6x6 grid in which you play will seldom malfunction which creates the magnetic field on the perimeter of the aforementioned grid to fail. Tilting your iPod at these key moments will allow you to jumble your non-movable pieces into what would hopefully turn into a solution to your head scratching problem. If this is successful, you are rewarded with a Capone which can be used in-game at the shop to purchase new themes, songs and avatars based on the aesthetic look to the game.
You take the role of a Fox named Michael with the goal of defeating the evil Turnip after the ridicule he has taken over the years fighting over a series of puzzle matches you move onto various worlds via the entrance and exit of the Portal gates. While these seem over-used, Magnetic definitely has a unique twist to a much derived genre and art style which is well worth checking out.
While there doesn’t seem to be any story along the lines of Heavy Rain the game definitely delivers in game play by the truck load, the simple yet effective mechanic of matching three rivals’ behemoths such as Bejewelled 3 and Zoo Keeper and it’s definitely worth your fifty-nine pennies.
It could very well knock off Angry Birds off the top spot for your iPhone but with less birds and more idle foxes.
